The objective as Lauren Faggard illustrates on this problem solving DVD is to stress six chief practices. The first three are how a dog learns: timing, consistency and motivation. The second three are the phases of learning: teaching, reinforcing, proofing. She also shows life is not perfect and every training session may not be either, but that does not mean the session hasn’t had its successes.
Her self-developed, proven method makes a great canine citizen of the most incorrigible dog. This award winning method is veterinary approved and veterinary recommended. It trains you to train your dog. Neither you nor your dog are too old or too young to benefit.
Timing is key in training. You have 1.3 seconds to make a correction. After this lapse of time the dog has moved on to other pursuits and will not know why or for what he is being corrected.
How can correction in 1.3 seconds be accomplished? Use an invisible leash, a remote training collar. Its operation is similar to that of a tens unit used on humans and the stimulation is about equal. The remote collar functions to keep the dog’s attention focused and protects him from distractions.
Consistency is all important. Use the same words for commands: Sit! Down! Potty! Yes, even potty... or words of your choice. Keep the requirements for favorable behavior to a set standard.
Reserve a time for you and your pet to train at the same time daily. You both will look forward to it. Train under all conditions: rain, snow, sleet; daylight and dark; fair, windy cloudy or sunny. Your dog will know your requirements under all conditions and he will love it.
Motivation for you is up to you. And so is it up to you for your pet. Reward his good behavior and progress. The same reward may not work for all dogs. Try a variety and see which gets the best response from your canine companion. Try the spoken word: “Good boy!” Use an octave higher so he will know you are as excited as he is. Use food. For instance use a biscuit or a piece of wiener. Try cheese! Your dog may prefer a toy such as a ball with play or a chew toy.
Obedience training will clear up potty training problems and make your dog enthusiastic about coming when called. It will also give you and your pet mutual respect.
Non-Competitive Obedience Training, the DVD, helps teach your dog pack order This is crucial. He must know he is below all humans in the pack that is your household. All members of your family, including able preschoolers, should train with your dog. It will make for a happier environment.
